When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always thought when I grew up I wanted to be a teacher. Not quite sure of what grade level or what subject, but I just knew I wanted to teach. I was the kid who sat my dolls and stuffed animals around and played school.
Unfortunately, life has a way of throwing curveballs. I went to college and just got so frustrated at the fact I was great at math in school but couldn’t pass elementary math. You see they were teaching the new math method, and the way I had always been taught, just would not break so I could do this “new” way. By this time, too, I had narrowed myself down to Special Ed and probably at an Elementary level. But taking a first level Teaching Special Ed class, it went through different types of issues you may run into. It was at that point I had to make a decision of if this is truly where I wanted to go. I made the decision to change my major. I now have a Bachelor’s in Accounting with a minor in Business.
I still have a lot of respect for teachers and those who put themselves in a role as teachers in homeschooling.
